The issuance of licences, permits and letters of authority to operate (operational approvals) by the Mine & Quarry Development Unit is meant to control the operation of mining, quarrying and other mineral related activities as provided by existing laws and powers conferred to the officers of this Unit. The principal laws currently enforced by the respective states are as follows:

• Mineral Development Act, 1994
• State Mining/Mineral Enactment
• State Mineral Ores Enactment
• State Raw Gold Dealings/Buyers Enactment
• State Quarry Rules
• Tin Control Regulations (Movement of Tin Concentrates 1984)

Flow charts showing the steps for the issuance of licences, permits and letters of authority to operate and the respective forms (if necessary) are shown in the Malay version of Permohonan Lesen. All applications for the above operational approvals should be lodged at the respective JMG State Offices. For information/guidance, it is advisable to contact the respective State Offices for further details regarding the forms or procedures being used

The Laboratory provides a range of analytical services including engineering testing, environmental testing, geochemical as well as health related testing. These tests are provided for certification, quality appraisal, quality control, export purposes and research. Testing is done primarily for developers, construction companies, water entities, recreational facilities, environmental monitoring entities, mining companies, farmers, food processors, supermarkets and research organizations.
