JMG KUCHING LIBRARY, SARAWAK

INTRODUCTION

The JMG Kuching Library was established in the early 60’s. Currently, there are about 146 users registered with the library. The Library is manned by an Assistant Librarian. One of the main objectives of the JMG Kuching Library is to ensure that the officers, department staff and the general public are provided with the latest and complete reading materials in Geoscience fields.

The material collections consist of journals, magazines, publications, books, photographs, maps, slides, videos and reports from agencies and institutions (both from local and abroad).

The library has 2,589 books and subscribes to about 20 magazines and journals. There are 20,000 local and foreign publications available. The total collection, including unpublished reports and maps, is estimated about 29,088 items.

The library can accommodate 15-18 users at one time.

SERVICES PROVIDED

The services provided by the library are as follows:

  • borrowing of books - for department’s staff only
  • referencing of books and materials - for department’s staff and public
  • sales of department’s publications like maps, reports, etc.
