LIBRARY IPOH, PERAK

INTRODUCTION

There are 2 libraries situated within the Department of Mineral & Geoscience’s Building in Ipoh, Perak namely the Technical Services Division (TSD) Library and the Mineral Research Centre (MRC) Library. Both libraries are maintained by the Documentation and Library Unit under the Information Management Section of the TSD. Both libraries play a role as an important source of information to in-house personnel, students and public who has an interest in doing investigative and research work in the field of mining, mineral and geoscience.

LOCATION

The Technical Services Division Library is situated on the first floor of the Mineral and Geoscience Department Buidling.

The Mineral Research Centre Library is situated on the ground floor of the MRC Building.

Both adjacent buildings are situated along Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah, about 5 km east of the City of Ipoh, and is opposite to Sekolah Tuanku Abdul Rahman (STAR).

COLLECTION

The total number of collection in both libraries has increased over the years and is presently around 67,000 copies. It covers reference books, bulletins, magazines, research reports, unpublished reports, reports from local agencies and international institutions.

SERVICES PROVIDED

1. Reference and Information

This service provides users with the necessary basic information which will help them find and use other appropriate library materials. It covers any enquiry, research and sourcing of information and materials in both libraries. Enquiries may be made through telephone and email. Where necessary, any client may be referred to the experts in the various fields within the department.

2. Loan – for staff only

Loaning of library materials is catered for departmental staffs only. Each borrower is allowed to borrow a maximum of five (5) materials for a period of one (1) month.

3. Inter-library Loaning Service

The Inter-library loaning service caters for users who wish to obtain materials which are not available within the libraries collection. This is done through co-operation between libraries within the country and abroad.

4. Sales of Departmental Reports

The Library also sells published reports by the Department such as investigative reports and geological & mineral maps. Uses may refer to any subject matter of interest by going though the catalogue provided for and also through the Department Webpage.
