The Minerals and Geoscience Department Malaysia’s web site has undergone a total facelift. After several years without major changes, the Department decided that the web site should be developed in-house. To accomplish this task, the Department’s Web Site Development Group was formed comprising several officers with capability and knowledge in web site development. Efforts to develop the new web site commenced once this group was officially formed. The open-source Content Management System (CMS) was the application chosen to develop the web site.
The Department’s web site is now almost a portal providing online services, interactive contents and having characteristics reflecting the current advances in technology in web site development. Without doubt, the ultimate objective in developing this new web site is to turn it into a full fledge portal. Although far from perfect, continuous efforts is being made to turn the web site into a portal which satisfy the needs and satisfaction of visitors.
One of the strategies to introduce and promote the Department is via web site. As one of the departments under the Natural Resource and Environment (NRE) Ministry, this new web site contains information on the Department’s organization, activities, services and publications. The web site also includes knowledge corner, photo gallery, multimedia corner and latest news update on the Department’s activities. This web site will be maintained and updated to ensure that the contents are always relevant and the information is not obsolete.
Finally, a word of thanks and appreciation to the Web Site Development Group for having successfully developed the Department’s new web site. To visitors, it is hoped that the Department’s new web site will enhance knowledge which will be of benefit. It is my hope that this web site will be bookmarked by every visitor as a favourite destination, which is regularly visited when surfing the INTERNET.
Thank you.

Dato' Haji Yunus Abd Razak,
Director General,
Minerals and Geoscience Department Malaysia.
